Janice: EU firearms directive should not be implemented in the UK

To all the sport shooters, collectors and hunters who have contacted me lately on the EU firearms directive, my group and I have voted against yet another absurd EU proposal.

The security problems we are facing in Europe are clearly not caused by law-abiding citizens who collect or use weapons, yet they are being unfairly targeted.

The real reasons for the security problems in Europe are open borders and the mass availability of illegal weapons used by criminals and terrorists. 800.000 weapons alone are brought in via Bosnia, due to open borders.

This bureaucratic EU directive targets legal weapon owners instead of the criminals and Jihadis which is totally unacceptable. According to Europol only one deactivated weapon was used in a terror attack. The emphasis should be on the black market and dark web, not citizens’ legally owned weapons.

I do not support any interference by the European Parliament in national affairs. It is the responsibility of the individual countries to make gun laws. As the UK will soon Brexit we will not accept that this EU directive should be implemented in the UK.
