MEP Atkinson: Marine Le Pen supports Brexit and may speak in London before the Referendum
20th April 2016
From the Office of Janice Atkinson, Independent MEP for South East England
Reports have emerged from France today that Marine Le Pen, the leader of the Front National, may come to London and speak in support of the UK leaving the EU before the forthcoming June referendum. No date has yet been set.
Mrs Le Pen, who leads a Eurosceptic group of MEPs from several different countries in the European Parliament including South East England’s Independent MEP, Janice Atkinson, cares deeply about individual nations being in control of their own affairs.
Ms Atkinson (who has a new publication out on the European case for Brexit) welcomes the support from the increasingly popular Mrs Le Pen, stating:
“She supports national border controls. She believes in the sovereignty of nations to elect their own representatives and she campaigns for the integration of all migrants and controlled numbers to protect French services. I campaign on these same issues on behalf of the UK.”
Both Mrs Le Pen and Ms Atkinson believe that a ‘Leave’ result in the UK will lead to major repercussions throughout Europe, where there is growing support for much looser ties with the political EU, increasing Euroscepticism and calls to leave the control of the Brussels bureaucracy.
Last week the Dutch vote further demonstrated the depth of anti-EU feeling. END
