Milan staged European Parliament group: Europe of Nations and Freedom two-day conference on Thursday where Independent MEP Janice Atkinson spoke of a Brexit, Frexit and Nexit, with Great Britain leading the way.
Janice Atkinson, Independent MEP for South East England and ENF Vice-Chair said: “Sometime this year or maybe next, Britain may leave the EU but were not leaving Europe, just the EU, for the EU is not Europe.”
The Eurosceptic MEP added: “At home, Brexit will allow us to reinstate full control over our borders, asylum and migration policies. We will be able to protect our society, while welcoming migrants who can contribute to it.”
Speaking of a “domino” effect Mrs Atkinson said that the UK would set an example and encourage others in Europe to follow suit – mentioning whether France decided to Frexit or not was ultimately up to the French people to decide after the Dutch Party for Freedom, led by Geert Wilders, announced Dutch ‘Nexit.’
“The UK has the fifth largest economy with London being the financial capital of the world which the EU hates. Over regulation by the EU makes us less competitive. EU red tape may cost British businesses up to 33bn per year. These are costs on top of the 12 Billion pounds annually we pay into the EU budget.”
Quoting her hero, Margaret Thatcher: ‘Europe will be stronger precisely because it has France as France, Spain as Spain, Britain as Britain, each with its own customs, traditions and identity. It would be folly to try to fit them into some sort of identikit European personality.’
Janice ended her speech saying: “She was right then and she’s right now. We want our countries back.”
